Position Overview
A small government organization is seeking a Part-Time Payroll / AP Clerk to provide coverage for a departing employee. This position will support critical payroll and accounts payable functions during an organizational restructuring and will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. While the initial assignment is expected to last approximately 6-8 weeks, strong performance could lead to consideration for a full-time permanent opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll
- Process payroll for approximately 28 employees.
- Ensure payroll accuracy, compliance, and timely processing.
- Maintain payroll records and support payroll-related reporting.
- Work within payroll and banking systems to process employee payments.
- Address payroll questions and discrepancies as needed.
Accounts Payable
- Process accounts payable twice monthly.
- Review invoices for accuracy and proper approvals.
- Prepare payments through checks and ACH transactions.
- Maintain AP documentation and records.
Administrative Support
- Assist with invoice tracking and payment approval processes.
- Support preparation of documentation for management and board review.
- Coordinate payment processing following approvals.
- Provide general administrative support to the finance function as needed.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of payroll processing experience.
- Strong understanding of payroll compliance and payroll administration.
- Ability to work independently in an onsite environment.
- Basic Excel proficiency.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Work Environment
- 100% onsite.
- Flexible part-time schedule (you can choose hours) averaging approximately 20 hours per week.
- Office operates on a four-day workweek schedule.
- Candidates can generally work hours that fit their schedule as long as business needs are met.
